Free tickets available for fifth annual Prelude to Christmas
For a fifth year, the School of Church Music and Worship (SCMW) presents Prelude to Christmas, a free musical event to kick off the holiday season for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and surrounding communities.
“Our School of Church Music and Worship might be one of the best kept secrets in the entire metroplex,” SCMW Dean Joe Crider said. “This event helps us share with our community what our campus is realizing—that God is doing something very special in Cowden Hall. We have a stellar faculty of artists/theologians/musicians and truly gifted and godly students who all desire to serve our community by pointing people to Christ through their artistic gifts and talents.”
The theme of the 2025 Prelude to Christmas is “Prepare Him Room” and will include a variety of musical selections including classic carols, ballads, and modern songs that Crider said, “are certain to get people ready to celebrate the incarnation.”
“We feel this is a great Prelude to Christmas theme because it captures our sincere hope for the event, that people would see beyond the hyper-commercialism of the holiday season and truly ‘Prepare Him Room,’” Crider said.
The event will feature performances by Southwestern A Cappella, the Texas Baptist College band, Southwestern Singers, the Southwestern Music Academy children’s choir, men’s and women’s choirs, Prelude competition winners, and other groups and individuals.
“We look at Prelude to Christmas as an early Christmas gift to the metroplex, to encourage and inspire and remind folks that God is indeed with us, Emmanuel, and to encourage them to ‘Prepare Him Room,’” Crider said. “As people see our students and get a sense of their authentic love for Christ, I think it is an encouragement to know that churches will be blessed with this new generation of musicians and worship leaders.”
Two performances will be available under the direction of Chuck Lewis, SCMW professor associate dean who is the director and producer of the event, at no cost to ticket holders on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m., at the MacGorman Performing Arts Center on campus. Tickets can be reserved here.
