Stovall’s commitment to equipping disciple-makers honored
Terri Stovall, professor of educational ministries at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, was recently recognized by the Disciple Leaders Network (DLN) with the inaugural John McClendon Distinguished Leader Award.
“I am humbled and honored to be the inaugural recipient of the newly named John McClendon Distinguished Leader Award, honoring a man whose life and legacy still inspires today,” Stovall said in comments made during the DLN conference held March 23-24, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. “Like John, I am so grateful for those who poured into me, especially during seasons that stretched and refined me, and I count it a privilege that the Lord has given me, and continues to give me, the opportunity to pour into others.”
The network exists to support discipleship leaders in churches around the country and holds an annual conference when individuals are recognized for their commitment to discipleship. The already existing Distinguished Leader Award is now named for the retiring executive director and Southwestern alumnus John McClendon (’86).
Joseph Brasher, the new executive director of DLN, said Stovall previously served on the board of DLN and received the award because of her work in championing disciple leaders.
“She is recognized for her work at Southwestern and in the local church for excellence in equipping the church to make disciples,” Brasher said. “We are proud to have her as a part of DLN.”
Stovall, who also serves as dean of women, said she remains committed to propelling the next generation of leaders “to carry out the Great Commission, leading with purpose and integrity for His fame and His name. I am so thankful for an organization such as DLN who comes alongside these leaders in our churches because there is still much work to be done as we keep making disciples until Jesus comes again.”
