Texas Baptist College announces scholarship essay competition
Prospective Texas Baptist College (TBC) students who are high school seniors are encouraged to apply for the Texas Baptist College scholarship essay competition to win a presidential scholarship that includes full tuition, books, room, and board for the first year and is renewable for three additional years of the program. To be eligible for the competition, students must be a senior in high school, have a 3.0 or equivalent high school grade point average, and be an active member of a Southern Baptist church.
Todd Bates, dean of TBC, said the essay competition “is an opportunity for students to reflect on an important question about Christian higher education.” He is “always amazed at the thoughtfulness of the student essays” which “show a high level of academic preparedness with solid research, a giftedness with words and a remarkable imagination.”
“Our essay committee intentionally selects the topic question that will allow students to demonstrate their critical thinking and writing skills. It is always exciting for the committee to receive and begin to read the essays. Our past scholarship winners have become leaders on the campus and in the classroom,” said Bates.
The essay, which should answer the question What is a Christian worldview and how does it inform your academic study?, needs to be an argumentative essay between 3,500-4,500 words and must be an original essay written by the scholarship applicant. It also must include a title page, be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, be double-spaced with one-inch margins, and have numbered pages.
Essay submissions should be emailed to TBC@swbts.edu as a PDF document. The deadline for the competition is April 14, 2023.
The scholarship winner will be contacted by TBC and announced on social media on May 19, 2023.
“The scholarship competition is a real blessing to students and our college,” said Bates.
