Church supplies needs of hurricane survivors in Florida

Following the devastation wrought in Florida by Hurricane Irma, the First Baptist Church of Immokalee, Fla., under the leadership of Southwestern graduate Timothy Pigg, has rallied together to meet the needs of local residents. Distributing bags of food and cleaning supplies, the church is meeting the needs of what was already an impoverished area.

“We saw thousands and thousands of families well up with gratitude at being able to get the supplies they need,” said Pigg, a two-time graduate of Southwestern (B.A., 2013; M.Div., 2015). “We covet everyone’s prayers as we continue to serve…. We are just so thankful for the prayers, donations and support.”

NAMB reported on the church’s ministry as part of its disaster relief coverage following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. They noted that, in an area where residents make half of what the average Floridian does, community support and donated items—such as those provided by FBC Immokalee—“are the difference between survival and destitution.”
