Free SBC Alumni & Friends Luncheon in Dallas to include entire faculty

The entire faculty of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will attend the institution’s annual Alumni and Friends Luncheon to be held during the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas, June 11, President David S. Dockery announced today.
The three-course, plated meal is free for a maximum of 1,000 participants, but tickets are required.
“Having the SBC annual meeting close to Fort Worth provides a unique opportunity for Southwestern,” said Dockery. “Given that proximity and since most faculty are not able to regularly attend the annual meeting, we wanted to bring our entire faculty and their spouses to the luncheon to experience the annual meeting and to give the opportunity for our alumni to fellowship with the professors who helped to shape their ministries. Additionally, we wanted to make this opportunity available to as many alumni and friends as possible by making the luncheon free.”
Every participant in the luncheon will receive a free copy of the new Seminary Hill Press book, Shapers of the Southwestern Theological Tradition, edited by Dockery, Provost W. Madison Grace II, and Research Professor of Theology Malcolm B. Yarnell III. The new book will be released during the SBC annual meeting with a limited number of free copies also available at the seminary exhibit.
Written by 23 current faculty members with chapters surveying the contributions of 54 past and current professors, the book “serves as an attempt by the current Southwestern faculty to thank those who have gone before us,” Dockery writes in the Preface. “The numerous essays about our various shapers show the continuity around classical Christian commitments and evangelical Baptist distinctives that characterize the Southwestern tradition. It also shows the importance of theology for every discipline and program across the campus.”
Continuing the focus on the seminary’s faculty, the luncheon will also feature a panel of faculty members who will discuss their commitment to prepare men and women for Gospel ministry shaped by the seminary’s six core values: Grace Filled, Christ Centered, Scripturally Grounded, Confessionally Guided, Student Focused, and Globally Engaged.
The luncheon, which will be held at noon in Ballroom C of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, will also include recognitions for new distinguished alumni. The honorees will be announced later.
Registration for the luncheon is available here while tickets remain available.
