Southwestern announces exhibit, luncheon, campus visit plans during SBC annual meeting in Dallas

With the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas approaching, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is announcing opportunities for alumni and friends to connect with the seminary during the SBC and while visitors are near Seminary Hill in Fort Worth.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to reconnect with alumni and friends in nearby Dallas during the SBC annual meeting,” said Chandler Snyder, vice president for institutional relations. “Whether it’s in the exhibit hall, convention hall, seminary luncheon, or during campus visits, we look forward to catching up with Southwesterners—and future Southwesterners—during the SBC.”
Alumni, friends, and other visitors to the Southwestern exhibit during the SBC will experience Texas-flavored treats of barbecue sauce, hot sauce, and seasoning as giveaways each day, with packaging featuring an illustration of chief cook, President David S. Dockery. Campfire ceramic mugs will also be available for exhibit visitors, continuing the seminary’s Texas-themed giveaways.
Celebrating the centennial anniversaries of the Cooperative Program, Baptist Faith and Message, and the SBC’s ownership of Southwestern, the seminary is honoring its second president, L.R. Scarborough, for his key role in these developments by releasing a revised and expanded edition of The L. R. Scarborough Treasury, a Seminary Hill Press (SHP) collection of some of the Southern Baptist leader’s most important writings. Free copies will be available in the exhibit.
During the annual meeting, the seminary also will be providing free electronic resources:
—Sermons from the Psalms, an SHP e-book featuring faculty messages preached during the fall 2024 semester from the Psalter, will be available in the exhibit for download via bookmarks with a QR code. Illustrations of four of the psalms will be displayed on columns in the convention center with the QR code to download the e-book.
— A special blog series, “Better Together: Southern Baptist Cooperation and the Gospel,” will be available for download from the seminary’s Equip The Called website. The series, inspired by the centennial anniversaries of the Cooperative Program, Baptist Faith and Message, and the SBC’s ownership of Southwestern, is written by seminary faculty and Southern Baptist leaders covering various aspects of denominational cooperation.
The entire seminary faculty will be present during the SBC annual meeting. While some will be available throughout the exhibit experience, all members of the faculty will participate in the annual Alumni and Friends Luncheon. Visitors to the seminary exhibit will be able to register for the free luncheon, which will take place on Wednesday, June 11, 12:00-2:00 p.m., in the convention center. In addition to a report from Dockery, the luncheon will feature a faculty panel discussion. All luncheon attendees will receive a free copy of the new SHP book, Shapers of the Southwestern Theological Tradition. Edited by Dockery, W. Madison Grace II, and Malcolm B. Yarnell III, the book features essays by current seminary faculty about 80 influential faculty members, starting with the founding era of B.H. Carroll and Scarborough down to the present.
Seminary alumni and other messengers and guests attending the SBC annual meeting are also encouraged to visit Southwestern’s campus in Fort Worth while in the DFW Metroplex. Visitors may register for slots on the afternoons of June 7-9, with the first 200 receiving gift bags.
