Southwestern, TBC students recognized for academic achievements

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary named 43 seminary and Texas Baptist College students as the recipients of awards for academic achievements during the annual student awards banquet on April 25.
President David S. Dockery welcomed the students being awarded as well as the Southwestern Advisory Council and donors associated with the awards, calling it a special time to “recognize these students for outstanding achievement, for their faithfulness in their studies, to give thanks to God for His good work in their lives and the Spirit’s enablement among them.”
Provost and Dean of the School of Theology Madison Grace expressed gratitude to the faculty, donors, and students who put in such hard work and investment to get to the end of the academic year.
“We have a wonderful community here at Southwestern, through our faculty, through our students, through our staff,” Grace said. “And we get to take a moment today and just celebrate a few of them.”
Recipients received recognition for academic and ministerial achievements in each of the schools, some graduating this semester and others first-year students. Such awards have been presented since the 1970s and are nominated and voted on by faculty. Not all award recipients were able to attend the ceremony.
“As a professor myself, it is encouraging every single week to hear you talk about ministry, to see what you’re going to do,” Grace said to the students, adding he feels like future church ministries are in good hands with the Southwestern students and graduates.
