Ministry Now: leading through change with David S. Dockery
Destroyed dormitories, missing students, and an entire university thrown into chaos…and that was just in the first hour.
This week on Ministry Now, we met with David S. Dockery to discuss his experience as president of Union University during the tornado which nearly ended the school in 2008. In light of that experience, we discussed leading through crisis, weathering upheaval, and recovering from a disaster as a community.

This week, we’ll be meeting with Karen Kennemur to discuss children’s ministry in the midst of COVID-19, including creative ways churches and ministers can continue to disciple children despite the limitations of quarantine and social distancing.

- Mission Arlington has created a “drive thru” for people who are receiving food. This limits the amount of people in the building and the physical interaction between people, and it allows visitors to receive what they need from the privacy of their own vehicle. Mission Arlington is also delivering food and supplies to people who call in and are requesting assistance if at all possible.

Baptist worship leaders discuss ministry during pandemic, strategies for reopening
The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s School of Church Music and Worship brought together more than 400 worship leaders across the nation in a May 29 webinar to hear faculty and state worship leaders discuss strategies for reopening in-person worship and related concerns.
As churches begin to consider when and how they will welcome people back to their church facilities in the coming weeks, music ministers face a lot of questions and concerns regarding how they lead their people in worship. The “Worship Ministry in a Pandemic” webinar featured four Southwestern Seminary faculty and 10 state convention worship leaders and consultants offering leadership perspectives.
Greenway brings ‘word of hope’ in ministry update to SBC
Even in this moment of “unprecedented challenge” brought about by COVID-19, President Adam W. Greenway assured the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) that “God is still doing an extraordinary work” at The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
In a pre-recorded report during the June 2 SBC Advance, a two-hour online event providing ministry updates from SBC entities, Greenway said, “It would be very easy for me to spend the time talking about all of the adversity, all of the financial challenges, all of the uncertainties that we have, but what I want to do in this moment is to bring a word of hope, a word of excitement.”
“Because I know that even in the midst of COVID-19,” he continued, “God has been working to continue to use Southwestern Seminary and our Southwestern Seminary faculty, students, and staff to make a difference that is meeting the needs and helping to change lives even in this moment.”
