This Week on the Hill: Updated degrees announced, Queen & Bradford discuss personal evangelism
“This Week on the Hill” is a weekly roundup of campus news, announcements, and events from Southwestern Seminary and Scarborough College.
Christian, you have what it takes to evangelize
If you know enough of the Gospel to have been saved by it, you know enough to share it. Last week on Ministry Now, we were joined by Carl Bradford and Matt Queen to discuss, among other things, what the “gift of evangelism” is and why all Christians have it.
Ministry Now is a resource from Southwestern Seminary, helping you live your calling in an ever-changing ministry landscape. Episodes air at 10am CT on Facebook and YouTube Premiere.
This week, we’ll be joined by our new faculty member, Lilly Park, to discuss how to maintain emotional and mental health during these stressful times.

Renewed, fully online worship leadership degree provides flexibility for ministers
A newly revised, 36-hour Master of Arts in Worship Leadership (MAWL) is now available entirely online and in a new eight-week structure in the School of Church Music and Worship at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, school leaders announced recently.
Joseph R. Crider, dean of the School of Church Music and Worship, says the degree, designed to provide the core biblical and theological foundations for the church worship leader, is especially appropriate for the student already serving in a ministry position.
“The new online format offers maximum flexibility for worship leaders to pursue ministry training without having to leave their churches,” Crider says. “In addition, the new online format provides significant real-time interaction with our faculty during the 8-week session and, therefore, practical application of the course material can be made directly to the student’s ministry.”
‘Wider opening’ offered in updated professional doctoral degrees, leaders say
Changes to the Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Educational Ministry degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will result in a “wider opening” for professional doctoral work, leaders say.
Among the changes is the introduction of the “flex option,” permitting some D.Min. students to participate in the annual on-campus seminar work remotely. Additionally, the D.Ed.Min. degree is now open to graduates of the Master of Theological Studies or its equivalent.
“These changes make Southwestern Seminary’s professional doctoral programs even more accessible to more ministers seeking to advance their training,” said Provost Randy L. Stinson. “For especially those affected by COVID, this wider opening for other students to engage in doctoral work couldn’t come at a better time.”
The addition of the flex option “will allow certain students to remain connected to their doctoral studies without having to travel to Fort Worth. We feel this is the right time to add this alternative given the uncertainty of living in a pandemic,” he added.
