Dr. Crider serves as dean and professor of church music and worship in the School of Church Music and Worship, as well as occupying the McKinney Chair of Church Music. He is passionate about training the next generation of worship leaders and encouraging pastors and worship leaders to embrace the Bible as their guide for corporate worship.
Prior to serving on the faculty at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Crider taught at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Liberty University, Southwest Baptist University, and Westmont College and served on pastoral staffs of nearby churches.
Dr. Crider is a frequent speaker and clinician at worship conferences and churches. He has contributed articles to various publications and seminars. Dr. Crider is the author of Scripture-Guided Worship: A Call to Pastors and Worship Leaders (Seminary Hill Press, 2021). Dr. Crider has been married to Amy for 36 years and they have four children and three grandchildren.

Meet Joseph Crider
Since he began leading the School of Church Music and Worship in 2019, Crider has fostered a commitment to a “really strong biblical understanding of what worship is” while also recognizing that “transformational pedagogy comes with a commitment to relationships, and the development of relationships with our students is key for us in our success,” he said.
