Apply for Housing

Campus housing began in the unfinished basement of Fort Worth Hall in 1910 when the seminary moved from Waco to the present campus in Fort Worth. Today, the seminary provides approximately 630 apartments and houses and more than 350 spaces in two residence halls.

To apply for housing, you must be an approved student. At the time of move-in, the student must be (or will be at the next registration period) a bona fide student enrolled for academic credit in an approved Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary degree or certificate program, maintaining a minimum of six (6) hours per semester (spring and fall). Why Campus Housing

Location. Campus housing places residents a short distance from student facilities on campus (i.e., classrooms, library, student center, business office, etc.). The majority of housing units are located within four blocks of the seminary.

Quality and Service. Campus housing is maintained by an in-house facilities team. All units are serviced and cleaned prior to arrival. After-hour emergency maintenance calls are received by a real person and addressed by an on-call maintenance representative as appropriate.

Community. Campus housing offers residents to build lasting friendships that will enrich their academic experience and encourage future ministry.

Economy. Campus housing typically runs 15-25% less than comparable facilities in the area.

Safety. In addition to attentive, caring neighbors, the student housing is patrolled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year by our highly trained Campus Police. This police department works in concert with the FWPD and brings an added layer of protection for our residents.

Who is eligible for campus housing and when can they apply?

Campus housing is reserved for current students who are full-time each spring and fall semester (Online and I-term only students are not eligible). One may apply for housing after receiving approval from the Office of Admissions (new students) or the Registrar's Office (returning students). How do I apply for housing?

Once a student has received approval from the appropriate office, he or she may submit a housing application. The student housing application is an online application, and you can apply at your earliest convenience. For the best availability, prospective residents are encouraged to make an application early, preferably three to six months before the requested move-in date. However, eligible persons may apply at any time.

How are assignments made?

Housing applications are handled in the order in which they are received. Note: For the best availability, prospective residents are encouraged to apply early, preferably four to six months prior to the requested move-in date. However, all eligible students are encouraged to apply at their earliest convenience, even if it is less than four months away from their requested arrival date.
You will be charged a New Resident Fee of $200 upon assignment.
Assignments are made approximately 30 days in advance of the requested move-in date. Note: All assignments are subject to the eligibility of the applicant for and availability of the type housing requested.
While every effort is given to make assignments according to the preferences listed, there is no guarantee that one's first, second or third choice can be filled due to potential limitations of eligibility, availability or both.
An assignment e-mail will be sent once the assignment is made. Applicants are asked to respond to this e-mail by phone within two to three business days.
Ensure that you have signed your Housing Agreement prior to your Check-In Appointment. You may sign your agreement digitally and email it to campushousing@swbts.edu.
Rent begins on the date the keys are received and is prorated for the first month (based on a 30-day rental rate table).

Can residents have pets?

Pets are only permitted in Carroll Park neighborhood and each pet must be pre-approved through the Office of Residence Life & Housing. Pets are not permitted in the Student Village Apartments or the Student Village Townhomes, even under temporary circumstances. Note: Service animals are not considered pets. A service animal is any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Service animals perform some of the functions and tasks that the individual with a disability cannot perform for him or herself.

How do I find a roommate for an apartment?

There are two options for selecting a roommate. First, you may choose a preferred roommate of the same gender when you submit your housing application. When you and your selected roommate apply for housing, we will pair you together in the same unit. The second option is to select that you would like to have roommate, and the Office of Residence Life & Housing will match you with another applicant of the same gender with similar preferences. There is no guarantee for specific roommate selection, but we seek to serve all resident well, and will do our best to create opportunities for success in the roommate selection process.

If I am single, do I have to live in the residence hall?

Texas Baptists College students 25 years and younger are required to live in the Residence Halls. TBC students who are married are eligible for General Housing units.
Southwestern Seminary students 25 years of age and younger may reside in General Housing or in the Residence Halls.

What should I bring to the residence hall?

Do the Residence Halls have RAs (Resident Assistants)?

Yes, each residence hall has multiple RAs, and at least one residence director (RD). RAs live in centrally located rooms on each floor. They plan a variety of activities throughout the semester to promote student life and community within the residence hall. One RA is on duty during the evening.
Each residence hall also has a Residence Director (RD). The RD lives in an apartment within the residence hall. They provide oversight for the RAs and are available to the residents as another source of community and encouragement. RDs are trained to prepare for various situations that may arise in residence halls, from academic challenges to emergencies.
